A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Star Promises a “Totally Different” Season 2

If anything has reignited the Game of Thrones fervor, it’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The tale of a foolish hedge knight and his improbably bald squire captured our hearts with its debut season. However, if you were anticipating the next installment to be a carbon copy of the first, you might want to temper those expectations.

Star Peter Claffey shared with The Playlist that Season 2 is set to be a stark contrast to what television-only fans might anticipate. “It’s totally different. ‘The Sworn Sword’ is my favorite novella out of the three in the book ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.’ It’s a tragic love story. It’s a completely different job for Dunk. And I guess he has his first type of experience with… his first type of experience with trying to navigate talking and chatting with women, which is terrible for him, and trying to establish a working relationship with a woman, which is absolutely terrible for him,” Claffey explained.

“So yeah, it’s been so much fun to film, and up to now, all the people that have come in have been just amazing. I didn’t think we’d ever be able to reach the quality level of season one, but the people that have come in, I mean, the people have been confirmed now as well as Lucy Boyton and Babou Ceesay. And yeah, just the people have come in and been amazing, amazing,” he continued.

Book readers likely won’t be surprised to learn that season two will diverge significantly from the first. Each of George R.R. Martin’s three published Dunk & Egg tales takes the duo on a fresh adventure, exploring different thematic territory. They typically involve a fight or two, but none are as cinematic as the first in terms of the names involved and the potential scope of conflict. That said, as long as the writing quality remains consistent and the characters are as likable as they were in the first season, audiences should fall in love with the adaptation of “The Sworn Sword” just as they did with “The Hedge Knight.”
