Amorim Determined to Keep ‘Improving’ Garnacho and Mainoo at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire to retain young talents Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo at the club, despite reported transfer interest from other teams.
The Argentine winger Garnacho, 20, and English midfielder Mainoo, 19, have been linked with potential moves away from Old Trafford as the club aims to comply with financial regulations. However, Amorim sees the academy graduates as key players for United’s future.
“I want players like Kobbie and Garnacho,” Amorim stated. “Garnacho has changed significantly since being left out of the Manchester derby. He’s improving rapidly, not due to my influence, but because he understands things better now.”
The manager praised Garnacho’s adaptability, noting: “He’s grasped the position well, playing both inside and outside. His connection with Mainoo has been excellent.”
Regarding Mainoo, Amorim dismissed suggestions that contract negotiations were affecting the player’s form. “Everyone in England recognizes his talent. The key factor is his position, which is different and demanding. I now feel more confident playing him.”
Both players impressed in United’s recent 2-0 Europa League victory over FCSB, with Mainoo scoring and Garnacho providing an assist. Their performances have only reinforced Amorim’s determination to keep them at the club.
Despite the manager’s wishes, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe may still consider substantial offers for either player before the transfer deadline. Chelsea and Bayern Munich have reportedly shown interest in Mainoo, while Garnacho was previously linked with Chelsea.
As the transfer window nears its close, Amorim will be hoping to retain these promising young talents to build Manchester United’s future around them.
