Following an impressive entry into ONE Championship, Scotland’s Amy Pirnie is aiming for the atomweight world title.
Pirnie made a sensational debut in ONE, knocking out Yu Yau Pui in just 49 seconds in August.
This quick victory was no fluke. ‘It couldn’t have gone smoother. My coaches analyze my opponents, and we develop a game plan. We practiced that shot for Yu, and it landed perfectly,’ she mentioned.
‘It was a planned strategy that we executed effectively that night. It couldn’t have been better.
‘We were aiming for a knockout knowing she is an aggressive fighter. The plan was to stop her advance, which worked successfully.’
This performance was particularly remarkable as Pirnie was returning after almost three years away from the sport due to injury recovery and other issues.
‘The break wasn’t intended to be this long,’ she explained. ‘I did consider retiring on a high note.’

Pirnie is set to fight Shir Cohen on the undercard of the Alexis Nicolas vs Regian Eersel rematch for the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title.
The fighter from Glasgow believes a performance similar to her debut could pave the way for a title shot against Allycia Rodrigues for the ONE atomweight Muay Thai world championship.
‘I hope so. I made a strong statement in my first fight, and I’m aiming to do the same in my second, hoping it will push me closer to the title,’ Pirnie stated. ‘Hopefully, it will put me in contention for the gold.
‘[Rodriguez] is technically very skilled and experienced.
‘I would love to fight her. It would be a fantastic match, a great clash of styles.’
British Fighters on the Rise
UK fighters are increasingly making their mark in ONE Championship, a major global platform for martial arts.
While legendary kickboxer Liam Harrison has retired from Muay Thai, and Jonathan Haggerty recently lost his Muay Thai title to Superlek, Haggerty remains the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and is expected to continue competing at the highest level.
There’s also a growing wave of fighters from Glasgow making their presence felt. Alongside Pirnie, Nico Carrillo and Stephen Irvine are also from the city and are climbing the ranks, seeking their own title opportunities.
