Atlético Madrid Confirms Simeone’s Continued Tenure Until 2026/27, New Contract Not Ruled Out

Diego Pablo Simeone is set to remain the head coach of Atlético Madrid for at least the upcoming season, further extending his remarkably long collaboration with the club. The Argentine has been at the helm since December 2011, a period spanning over 14 years, during which he has overseen 786 matches, achieving 465 victories, 170 draws, and 151 defeats.

Throughout his tenure, the club has experienced significant highs and lows, including reaching two Champions League finals, securing two La Liga titles, and winning two Europa League trophies. The current season, despite their fourth-place standing in La Liga, shows promise. They have reached their first Copa del Rey final since 2013, notably eliminating FC Barcelona on the way, and are also set to face the Catalan giants again next month in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The club and the manager have reportedly reached an agreement for him to continue through the 2026/27 season, which marks the end of his current contract. While discussions about extending his deal beyond that date have taken place, nothing definitive has been concluded. However, it is certain that Atlético will not entertain offers from other clubs for the 55-year-old coach, especially following recent rumors of interest from Inter Milan.
