Bayern Munich Edges Past Celtic in Champions League Nail-Biter

Bayern Munich narrowly secured their place in the Champions League quarterfinals, defeating Celtic 3-2 on aggregate after a tense 1-1 draw in the second leg. The German champions broke Scottish hearts with a last-gasp equalizer from Alphonso Davies.

Celtic put up a valiant effort and took the lead through Nicolas Kuhn early in the second half. The Scottish side created several excellent chances throughout the match and looked poised to force extra time. However, Davies bundled home from close range in the dying seconds to dash Celtic’s hopes of a historic upset.

Harry Kane, Bayern’s star striker, was largely ineffective and substituted at halftime due to injury concerns. Celtic captain Callum McGregor squandered a golden opportunity early on, while Kuhn had a shot cleared off the line in the first half.

The visitors continued to threaten after the break, with Daizen Maeda missing a diving header that could have put Celtic ahead in the tie. Bayern pressed for an equalizer but were repeatedly denied by Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Just when it seemed Celtic might hold on for a famous victory, Davies pounced on a rebound in the 94th minute to break Scottish hearts. The late goal secured Bayern’s progression to the quarterfinals, keeping alive their dreams of lifting the Champions League trophy in their home city later this season.

While devastated by the manner of defeat, Celtic can take pride in their performance against one of Europe’s elite clubs. Bayern, meanwhile, will know they must improve to challenge for the title in the latter stages of the competition.
