BB-8 Actor Brian Herring: Star Wars Sequel Trilogy No More Polarizing Than Prequels

The latest Star Wars film trilogy, encompassing Episodes VII to IX (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker), has undeniably sparked considerable debate among fans. While many continuously express their dissatisfaction with these films, others remain open and receptive to the new narratives they introduced and how they expanded the beloved galaxy far, far away.

Regardless of your personal stance, you might be curious about the insights of a key individual involved in bringing these three films to life. Brian Herring, known for his work as one of the actors and puppeteers who gave BB-8 its vibrant personality in the sequel trilogy, recently shared his views on the enduring discussion surrounding these cinematic releases.

“I believe the sequel trilogy is no more polarizing than the prequel trilogy was upon its initial release,” Herring explained. He elaborated, “Many of those currently upset with the sequels are too young to remember the intense backlash the original prequels faced, the key difference now being the ubiquitous presence of the internet. Had the internet been as prevalent during the prequel era, you would have witnessed exactly the same kind of discourse unfolding.”

Herring further speculated, “And I predict that in 10 years, you’ll see a shift in perspective, similar to what we now observe with the prequels. The sequels already boast a massive fanbase, whom I encounter regularly, and they are generally much younger than those who express their dislikes online. It’s perfectly normal; if you don’t enjoy them, you don’t enjoy them. Not everything is made for everyone. I simply believe these discussions are generational, and as Battlestar Galactica so aptly put it, ‘All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.'”
