Samir Shah, the chairman of the BBC, has stated that Match of the Day should evolve beyond simply showing football highlights.
The new head of the BBC is keen to implement significant changes within the organization to safeguard its independence amidst declining revenues.

Shah, a Manchester United supporter, is a keen follower of Match of the Day but believes it needs to be modernized.
He noted that many fans now watch Premier League highlights online well before Match of the Day airs on Saturday nights.
Consequently, Shah mentioned to The Times, “[Match of the Day] should not just focus on highlights.
“It should concentrate on analysis and in-depth examination of the match, offering viewers a more profound understanding.”
Match of the Day is expected to be revamped this summer as Gary Lineker, the long-serving presenter, steps down after 25 years.
He will be replaced by a trio consisting of Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan, and Kelly Cates.
There is also speculation that Wayne Rooney might join the program as a pundit.
Rooney has already debuted on the BBC, having contributed to their coverage during Euro 2024.
He also made a strong impression as a pundit in his recent appearance for Amazon Prime.
He was part of the broadcast for the Champions League match between Manchester City and Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.
