The Star Wars universe is bustling with numerous upcoming projects. Among these, a direct sequel to Rey’s story, titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, is planned to continue after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Other anticipated films include The Mandalorian & Grogu and a project known as Starfighter.
While Daisy Ridley has repeatedly confirmed her return as Rey for the New Jedi Order film, significant progress on the project appears to have stalled, leading to speculation about its eventual production.
Should the film move forward, a key question arises: will other beloved characters from the sequel trilogy make an appearance? We recently spoke with Brian Herring, one of the talented actors and puppeteers responsible for bringing the charismatic droid BB-8 to life, to gauge his interest in reprising the role.
Herring expressed immense enthusiasm for the prospect. “I would absolutely love to do it. And that’s all I’ll say about it. I don’t know anything. I’m usually the last person to find out about these things. So if it was an opportunity to present those sorts of things, I would absolutely love to do it. It’s one of my favorite jobs. So I would go back there in a heartbeat with BB-8. It would be an incredible opportunity to roll with him again, that would be a beautiful thing,” he stated.
In essence, while the return of BB-8 in a live-action film doesn’t appear to be an immediate priority, Herring is clearly ready and willing. Disney, you know who to call if the plucky droid is needed for Rey’s next adventure!
