Canelo Alvarez’s Surprising Move: Saudi Deal Replaces Jake Paul Fight

In an unexpected turn of events, boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez has signed a four-fight agreement with Riyadh Season, effectively canceling his anticipated bout with Jake Paul. This development comes as a shock to many, as negotiations for the Paul fight were reportedly in their final stages.

The announcement was made by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. Alvarez confirmed the news on social media, expressing enthusiasm for the new venture. Sources reveal that Alalshikh presented Alvarez with an ultimatum: proceed with the Paul fight and lose the lucrative Saudi deal, or commit to the multi-fight contract in Riyadh.

Alvarez’s first fight under the new agreement is scheduled for May 4, coinciding with Cinco de Mayo weekend. Potential opponents include Jermall Charlo and Bruno Surace. This bout will serve as a warm-up for Alvarez’s highly anticipated September 13 clash with Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Mexican champion’s 2026 schedule is also taking shape, with fights planned for February and October in Riyadh. Possible opponents include Dmitry Bivol in a rematch, Hamzah Sheeraz, and Chris Eubank Jr.

While the Jake Paul fight is now off the table, Alvarez’s upcoming bouts promise to deliver high-stakes action for boxing fans worldwide. The Crawford fight, in particular, remains a focal point, with the undefeated American moving up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez.

This new deal marks a significant shift in Alvarez’s career, as he prepares to fight outside North America for the first time. It also represents a major coup for Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in the world of boxing.
