During their recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Charlie Day (the voice of Luigi) and Chris Pratt (the voice of Mario) carefully avoided confirming the presence of Wario or Waluigi in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Their deliberately ambiguous responses were widely interpreted by fans as a major hint of the two famous antagonists’ imminent arrival. After all, a simple denial would have been easy and would have avoided raising false hopes.
However, as such iconic and central characters to the Mushroom Kingdom, it seems inevitable that Wario and Waluigi will make their big-screen debut. And if that happens, Charlie Day already has a very clear idea of the ideal actor to embody Wario. He suggested his long-time accomplice from the series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, Danny DeVito.
“Danny [DeVito] would fit so well into this universe, and I think he’d make a good Wario,” Day stated. It’s hard to argue with this suggestion: DeVito would be an exceptional choice, especially since in 2024, the actor himself had expressed interest in the role.
The question then arises for Waluigi. One could imagine a comedian like Bill Hader, whose ability to create distinctive voices and push them to grotesque limits could be perfect. Alternatively, a flamboyant and unpredictable Sacha Baron Cohen could also bring a memorable touch to the character.
In your opinion, who should lend their likeness and voice to Wario and Waluigi in the seemingly inevitable third Mario movie?
