Chelsea Pays Millions to Facilitate Ben Chilwell’s Loan Move to Crystal Palace
Chelsea has agreed to cover approximately £2 million in wages to help Ben Chilwell secure a fresh start. The defender has completed a loan move to Crystal Palace after passing a medical examination.
The Blues have committed to paying half of Chilwell’s £190,000 weekly salary until his contract expires on June 30. This arrangement means Crystal Palace and Chelsea will each contribute £95,000 per week towards his wages.
Chilwell, 28, expressed his excitement about joining Palace, stating: “Crystal Palace is a club moving in a positive direction. Considering their recent results and playing style, the decision to come here was straightforward.”
Palace chairman Steve Parish welcomed the signing, saying: “Ben brings experience from the highest levels of European and international football. We’re confident he’ll be an excellent addition to our squad.”
Last summer, Chilwell was informed he had no future at Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca. Since then, he has only played 45 minutes in a Carabao Cup match against Barrow in September.
Palace was seeking a left-sided player, and Chilwell can operate as both a full-back and center-back. This move provides an opportunity for Chilwell to revitalize his career at Selhurst Park after joining Chelsea from Leicester for £45 million in 2020 and making 107 appearances for the Blues.
