Court of Arbitration for Sport finds FIDE sanctions insufficient, imposes new measures on Russian Federation

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delivered a ruling in favor of Ukraine in its case against the Chess Federation of Russia, concluding that the earlier sanctions imposed by FIDE (International Chess Federation) were inadequate. This significant decision mandates that the Russian Federation must cease organizing all chess activities in several annexed territories, which are internationally recognized as Ukrainian, within a 90-day period. Failure to comply with this order will result in suspension from all international chess competitions. The core of this legal dispute centers on events that have been held in these disputed regions.
