It has been widely reported that a Netflix-funded live-action adaptation of Gundam is in active development, assembling an impressive cast that already includes Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo in leading roles. Michael Mando is also confirmed to join the ensemble. Now, industry reports reveal another significant addition: Shioli Kutsuna, known for her portrayal of Yukio in the Deadpool franchise (Deadpool 2 and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine), is signing on for the project in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Jim Mickle is attached as both writer and director for the film.
While the cast list continues to expand with notable talents, specific details regarding the commencement of filming and, more importantly, the movie’s official premiere date remain uncertain. Given the growing number of actors already involved, principal photography is widely anticipated to begin this year. However, a large-scale Gundam movie will inherently demand a substantial amount of post-production work due to its visual complexity, suggesting that viewers should not expect a release before late 2027 at the absolute earliest.
