Derek Chisora Turns to Fans for Final Fight Decision
Following his unanimous decision victory over Otto Wallin in Manchester, veteran boxer Derek Chisora is involving his supporters in selecting his opponent for his 50th and final professional bout. The 41-year-old fighter, who has resided in London since childhood, employed an unconventional approach to gauge fan interest.
In a memorable post-fight scene, Chisora invited prominent UK rap artists Skepta, Lethal Bizzle, and Tinie Tempah into the ring. Each musician held up images of potential opponents, including Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, and Oleksandr Usyk. The crowd’s reaction was notably enthusiastic for Joshua and Usyk.
Addressing the audience, Chisora stated, “I believe I’ve earned the right to a significant final fight. It’s up to you to decide.” His promoter, Frank Warren, who also represents Dubois, has pledged to honor Chisora’s choice, saying, “We’ll make whatever he wants happen.”
The victory over Wallin, which included two knockdowns, served as an eliminator for the IBF world heavyweight title. This belt is currently held by Daniel Dubois, who is set to defend it against Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia on February 22nd.
As Chisora contemplates his final opponent, he finds himself in a favorable position. Warren noted, “He’s now the mandatory challenger for the IBF title, which Dubois holds. That’s a valuable option for him.”
