A new exploit has been discovered in Dota 2, enabling players to drastically level up their heroes early in the game. This bug, found in April, revolves around the interaction of items Gris-Gris (Witch Doctor) and Black Grimoire (Warlock), which can be transferred between heroes.
This exploit builds upon a previously known issue where Gris-Gris and Black Grimoire could be given to any hero. By leveraging this, players can now achieve level 30 on any hero before the 10-minute mark. Here’s how it works:
Exploit Steps:
Method 1
- Outside your base, put Black Grimoire up for sale (do this before the horn) and move it to the neutral item slot to prevent accidental selling.
- At the 7-minute mark (when Black Grimoire`s cooldown is over), move it back to your main inventory and use `Deliver Items` to send it to the courier. Keep the courier near your fountain.
- Die (e.g., to Roshan) and disconnect from the game. Ask a teammate to `Return Items` on your courier, or do it yourself but disconnect before the courier reaches the base. Because you are disconnected and dead, Black Grimoire will drop on the ground instead of being sold.
- Reconnect and respawn. Pick up Black Grimoire with the courier and return items to the stash.
- Select the courier and use Black Grimoire from the stash. It won`t disappear, but you won`t be able to use it again immediately. To reset this, use `Deliver Items` and immediately `Return Items` to prevent selling.
- Repeat step 5 as many times as needed.
Method 2
- Outside your base, put Black Grimoire up for sale and move it to your main inventory. Use `Deliver Items` to send it to the courier, and cancel the sale before it reaches the fountain (before the horn).
- Return items to the stash and wait for Black Grimoire`s cooldown to finish.
- Proceed from step 5 of Method 1. This method only gives Black Grimoire one charge, requiring more repetitions of step 5.
Both of these exploits have been reported to the Dota 2 bug registry on GitHub. As of now, developers have not yet fixed these vulnerabilities.
