England’s New Manager Thomas Tuchel to Work Remotely from Germany
Thomas Tuchel, recently appointed as England’s new football manager, has made an unusual arrangement with the Football Association. The 51-year-old German coach will be allowed to work remotely from his home country and miss certain matches.
Tuchel, who signed an 18-month contract in October to replace Gareth Southgate, officially began his £5 million per year role on January 1st. Since then, he has attended several Premier League matches across England to scout players. However, he has also been absent for some key fixtures, including the entire FA Cup third round.
The FA has agreed to let Tuchel make regular trips back to Germany to see his family. He has two children with his ex-wife Sissi, whom he divorced in 2022. This arrangement will allow Tuchel to balance his professional duties with his personal life.
While some may question this unconventional setup, Tuchel has assured fans he will be fully committed to the role. “I will be at St. George’s Park very regularly. This is our home, our base,” he stated in a recent interview. “I need to be there to create the right atmosphere for the 18 months we have together.”
Tuchel is now preparing for his first match as England manager on March 21st, when the team hosts Albania at Wembley Stadium for their first World Cup 2026 qualifier. This will be followed by another home game against Latvia three days later.
As England’s third foreign manager after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, Tuchel expressed pride in his appointment: “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”
Only time will tell how this unique working arrangement impacts England’s performance on the pitch. Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely as Tuchel leads the Three Lions into a new era, balancing his time between England and Germany.
