Jorge Jesus has been appointed as the new head coach of the Portugal national team, signing a four-year contract that extends through the 2030 World Cup. This appointment follows Roberto Martínez's departure after Portugal's elimination from the World Cup by Spain in the Round of 16. Jesus, a seasoned coach with extensive experience since 1990, most recently managed in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal and later Al-Nassr, where he expressed his motivation was to help Cristiano Ronaldo secure the Saudi Pro League title, an objective they achieved.

While Jesus acknowledges that Ronaldo, at 41, might not be active for the 2030 World Cup or the 2028 UEFA Euro, he made a clear statement regarding the veteran's future with the national squad. "As long as he plays and is in a condition to be selected, I will choose him, within certain limits and according to the conditions I deem best for the national team," Jesus stated. He further described Ronaldo as an easy player to work with and a "symbol of Portuguese football."

Jesus's inaugural match as Portugal's manager is scheduled for September 24th, a Nations League fixture against Wales.
