Former BBC football pundit and ex-Tottenham striker Garth Crooks, aged 67, has been handed a six-month driving prohibition. This follows his admission to being caught speeding again.
He confessed to driving his 1.4-litre diesel Mercedes A Class hatchback at 24 mph within a designated 20 mph speed limit area.
Crooks voiced a complaint that the speed camera which detected him in Holloway, North London, back in January was obscured.
However, magistrates at Lavender Hill court stated that the speed restriction is effective at all times, regardless of whether a camera is visible.
Crooks had already accumulated nine penalty points from two prior speeding infractions and a traffic signal violation.
He received an additional three points for the latest offence, resulting in an automatic disqualification from driving.
The former FA Cup and UEFA Cup winner was fined £666, ordered to pay £110 in court costs, and a £266 victim surcharge.
Crooks, who was awarded an OBE in 1999, informed the court that he is now retired and receives an annual pension of £118,000.
Upon encountering a press photographer outside the court, Crooks covered his face with his jacket as he left.
