The Gears of War series has seen its longest hiatus yet, with six years passed since Gears Tactics and seven since Gears 5. However, the wait is nearing its end as Xbox Game Studios prepares for the 2026 release of Gears of War: E-Day. Anticipation is building, especially with a dedicated event for the game expected this summer.
Gears of War: E-Day will transport players back in time, well before the events of the original game, to feature a younger Marcus Fenix. But beyond this prequel, fans are undoubtedly looking ahead to Gears of War 6, which will need to address the critical choice made at the conclusion of Gears 5.
Interestingly, the voice actor for JD Fenix, Marcus’s son and a pivotal character, has shared a compelling idea for the sequel. He believes he has a solution to reconcile the branching paths from Gears 5 and expressed a strong desire to return to the franchise. His vision involves a scenario where, regardless of the player’s prior choice (implicitly hoping for Del’s survival to make JD’s fate more impactful), Marcus Fenix might descend into madness, going rogue. Meanwhile, JD Fenix could be resurrected and brought under Swarm control, forcing Marcus to confront and fight his own son. The ultimate goal, he speculates, would be to somehow save JD, though the specifics of that rescue remain a mystery to him.
