India’s Film Board Mandates Edits for Upcoming ‘Superman’ Movie

Reports indicate that India`s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has requested specific modifications to Warner Bros. Discovery`s upcoming `Superman` film before granting it clearance for public exhibition in the country.

According to sources familiar with the situation, regulatory officials mandated the removal or muting of certain instances of profanity within the picture. Furthermore, the board required the excision of two distinct scenes. The justification provided for cutting these sequences was that they depicted kisses deemed excessively “sensual” according to the board`s assessment. These edits specifically targeted the initial and concluding kissing interactions between the characters Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

Compliance with these stipulations has reportedly resulted in the film receiving a 13+ age rating for its release in the Indian market.

This iteration of the iconic superhero narrative is directed by James Gunn, known for his distinctive style in previous large-scale productions. The principal roles of Superman and Lois Lane are portrayed by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, respectively. The film is currently slated for a global premiere on July 11, 2025.

It appears that even the Last Son of Krypton is not immune to local regulatory scrutiny, particularly concerning depictions of human affection. This situation underscores the practical impact that national cultural standards, as interpreted by governing bodies, can have on the final cut of international cinematic releases distributed worldwide.
