Former UFC fighter Joe Lauzon is slated to make his professional bare knuckle boxing debut at BKFC 92, a significant combat sports event scheduled to take place at Boston’s historic Fenway Park on Saturday, August 29. Lauzon will compete in the welterweight division, with his opponent yet to be revealed.
With an impressive 15-year tenure in the UFC, Lauzon concluded his MMA career with a formidable record of 28 wins and 15 losses. Throughout his career, he engaged in memorable bouts against notable fighters such as Jorge Masvidal, Diego Sanchez, Al Iaquinta, Anthony Pettis, Kenny Florian, and Brandon Melendez. As a fan favorite in Boston, Lauzon was renowned for delivering numerous ‘Fight of the Night’ performances.
“Joe Lauzon is one of the most recognizable sports personalities in the Boston area, and we are incredibly thrilled about his transition to bare-knuckle boxing at our Fenway Park event,” stated David Feldman, Founder and President of BKFC.
Lauzon expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture: “I’m eager to collaborate with BKFC. The opportunity to return to the spotlight, especially in my hometown of Boston, was an offer I couldn’t refuse.”
He further elaborated on the excitement surrounding the venue: “What truly captivated me was the prospect of fighting at Fenway Park. While I’ve fought in Boston before, including at the TD Garden, there’s an undeniable magic in competing on the hallowed grounds of Fenway. As a lifelong Red Sox fan who played baseball in my youth and witnessed their World Series triumphs in college, the chance to fight there is truly extraordinary.”
“Boston has consistently supported me. Every time I’ve competed there, my friends, family, and supporters have filled the arena. I’m looking forward to experiencing that energy once again. Fenway Park stands as one of the most iconic venues in existence, and fighting there will undoubtedly be a lifelong memory.”
BKFC 92 will mark a historic occasion as the first sanctioned bare-knuckle fighting event to be held in Massachusetts. The electrifying evening of fights will unfold directly on the Fenway Park field. The main event will feature the reigning BKFC Featherweight World Champion and pound-for-pound contender ‘King’ Kai Stewart (9-0) of Great Falls, Montana, defending his world title for a record sixth time. He will face undefeated New England combat sports star Harry ‘The Hitman’ Gigliotti (6-0, 5 KOs) of Haverhill, MA.
Additional matchups for this world-class bare-knuckle fighting event are expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
