Jude Bellingham Risks Punishment for Outburst at Referee in Madrid Derby

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham may face disciplinary action from LaLiga after television cameras caught him directing profanity at an assistant referee during Sunday’s Madrid derby match against Atletico.

In the 12th minute of the 1-1 draw, the 21-year-old England international was heard shouting expletives at the linesman after a throw-in decision went against Real Madrid. This outburst was clearly audible on the television broadcast.

The incident comes just months after Bellingham avoided punishment for calling a referee a “piece of s***” during a match against Espanyol in September. It remains to be seen whether Spanish league officials will penalize the player for this latest emotional outburst.

Despite Bellingham’s frustrations, the match ended in a 1-1 draw after Julian Alvarez’s penalty for Atletico was canceled out by a second-half goal from Kylian Mbappe. The result keeps Real Madrid one point clear at the top of LaLiga with 15 games remaining.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti may rotate his squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Manchester City, as he deals with mounting injuries in defense. Key defenders David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are all currently sidelined.

The disciplinary committee will likely review footage of Bellingham’s outburst in the coming days to determine if any sanctions are warranted for the young star’s conduct toward match officials.
