After two incredibly close and groundbreaking fights, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will face each other for a third time. This match will be for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship on July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York. This event will be notable as it will feature an all-women’s boxing card.

The event is promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, owned by Jake Paul, and will be available to watch live on Netflix.

Jake Paul commented, highlighting the significance of announcing this trilogy during Women’s History Month. He emphasized MVP’s commitment to championing women in boxing, treating them with respect and equality.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, added that this all-women’s card demonstrates the progress in the sport and MVP’s dedication to promoting the next wave of female fighters.

The previous two fights between Taylor and Serrano were landmark events. Their first fight in April 2022 was the first women’s headline fight at Madison Square Garden, where Taylor secured a narrow victory by split decision in front of a packed audience. The rematch was a supporting event for Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson in November 2024. In that rematch, Taylor successfully defended her super lightweight titles with a controversial unanimous decision against Serrano.

Their second fight, streamed on Netflix, attracted an average of 74 million viewers globally. It became the most-watched women’s sporting event in U.S. history and was recognized as the 2024 Women’s Fight of the Year.

Bidarian mentioned that Netflix, impressed by the viewership of the rematch, proposed further collaborations with Most Valuable Promotions, specifically wanting the trilogy fight. MVP then suggested creating an all-women’s event to further promote women’s boxing on Netflix’s global platform.

Similar to the Paul-Tyson event, Netflix will stream this event on a Friday night. The details of the undercard for the all-women’s event will be announced later.

Joel Fisher, an executive at MSG Entertainment, stated that Madison Square Garden has a history of hosting major boxing events, including the first Taylor-Serrano fight. He expressed pride in hosting these athletes again for another historic event, marking their first all-female professional boxing card.

Taylor, representing Ireland and ranked No. 2 pound-for-pound, has held undisputed titles in two weight classes. After a 22-0 start to her career, her first defeat came when she moved to super lightweight and lost to Chantelle Cameron in May 2023. However, she avenged this loss in a rematch later that year and then defended her undisputed title against Serrano in November.

Taylor acknowledged the special rivalry with Serrano, emphasizing that their fights are always exciting. She believes a trilogy is fitting and anticipates a great atmosphere for the upcoming fight, similar to their first encounter at Madison Square Garden.

Serrano, representing Puerto Rico and ranked No. 3 pound-for-pound, holds a Guinness World Record for the most boxing world championships in different weight classes, with nine major world titles across seven divisions. Since a loss in 2012, Serrano’s record is 33-2-1, with both losses against Taylor. The close nature of these defeats justified a third match.

Serrano mentioned promising her fans a trilogy and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to conclude their series at Madison Square Garden, broadcast live on Netflix.

The first two fights consisted of 10 rounds of two minutes each, which is standard for women’s boxing. The third fight will follow the same format. Serrano has advocated for 12 three-minute rounds for the trilogy to match men’s championship fights. However, she stated that they couldn’t reach an agreement with Taylor for this change.

Serrano expressed disappointment that Taylor did not agree to 12 three-minute rounds, which she felt was a missed opportunity to equalize women’s and men’s championship boxing, especially given the significant financial gains for both fighters. Despite this, Serrano anticipates an intense fight on July 11 and aims to secure a definitive victory.
