According to reports, Kobbie Mainoo, a Manchester United academy graduate, may reject a lucrative new contract with the club and consider a move abroad. Although United initiated contract renewal talks last year, no agreement has been reached yet. Mainoo’s current contract with United runs until the summer of 2027.
It is reported that the 20-year-old player is open to the idea of continuing his career in a foreign league, as reported by The Guardian. Nevertheless, United remain cautiously optimistic about Mainoo signing a new contract but are prepared to consider his sale for at least £70 million if the situation becomes deadlocked.
Mainoo, currently one of United’s lowest-paid players earning £20,000 a week, seeks a salary increase that reflects his status in the team. Ruben Amorim, the new United coach, previously stated that the club might sell Mainoo to improve their financial situation.
Amorim expressed satisfaction with Mainoo’s progress, emphasizing his potential for further growth and urging the player to earn a pay rise through his performance. Mainoo is expected to play on Sunday in the match against Arsenal.
