Riot Games has announced exciting new details for the second season of League of Legends in 2025.
With the arrival of the second season`s first act, Summoner`s Rift will be updated with a vibrant Ionian theme inspired by the Spirit Blossom festival. The Baron Nashor, now referred to as Atahan, will have a single form: Spiked. Defeating Atahan will grant your team all active roses on the map with enhanced effects. Additionally, players involved in the takedown will receive the “Spiritual Cleansing” buff, which slows and damages nearby enemies while providing extra petals. The spawn timings for Void Grubs and the Herald of the Rift are also changing, with Grubs appearing later (only three will spawn) and the Herald appearing earlier at the 15-minute mark.
A significant new feature for Season 2 is role swapping within the lobby. Players will now be able to change their desired role, in addition to pick order. Switching to the Jungle role will automatically assign Smite (limited to one per team), and selecting Support will automatically purchase a World Atlas. Riot Games has adjusted penalties for lane swapping, now applying only to Support players. The death screen has also been refreshed, appearing less gray and allowing for immediate switching between allied player perspectives.
Another major addition in Season 2 of 2025 is a brand-new 5v5 game mode called “Battle.” This mode offers fast-paced PvP matches on a new map without towers or structures. Teams will focus on pushing minions into the enemy base to inflict damage. Riot Games describes this mode as a quick and accessible alternative to ARAM.
These innovations will be implemented in League of Legends with Patch 25.10, scheduled for release on April 30th. This patch will also introduce the first act`s battle pass, featuring Prestige Lux, Twitch, and Ivern skins. Furthermore, thematic skins will be released for Irelia, Ashe, Zyra, Varus, Bard, and Zed.
