Leyton Orient Player Scores Amazing Goal from Midfield Against Man City in FA Cup
Leyton Orient shocked Manchester City in their FA Cup match by taking an early lead with a spectacular goal. Jamie Donley, on loan from Tottenham, spotted City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega off his line and launched an audacious shot from the halfway line. The ball sailed over Ortega’s head and struck the crossbar before deflecting off the keeper into the net.
Though Donley’s brilliant effort was officially recorded as an own goal by Ortega, it sparked wild celebrations from the Orient players and fans. The League One side had taken a surprise 1-0 lead against the Premier League champions after just 15 minutes of play.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola had fielded a strong starting lineup including Jack Grealish, Omar Marmoush, Ilkay Gundogan and Savinho. However, the star-studded visitors found themselves behind early on thanks to Donley’s moment of inspiration.
The goal came after Donley won possession in midfield and quickly spotted Ortega out of position. His perfectly weighted shot from 40 yards out left the City keeper scrambling backwards in vain as the ball dipped under the crossbar.
While Donley was denied an official goal due to the deflection off Ortega, his incredible vision and technique to create the chance drew praise from commentators and fans alike. The 20-year-old’s audacious effort had given League One Orient an unexpected lead against the seven-time FA Cup winners.
