Irish golfers Leona Maguire and Lauren Walsh both experienced an early departure from the Ford Championship in Phoenix, missing the cut for the second consecutive week. Maguire posted an even-par round of 72, concluding her tournament at four-under par. However, the cut line at Whirlwind Golf Club ultimately fell at five-under par, leading to her exit.
LPGA rookie Lauren Walsh also recorded a 72, finishing her performance at one-under par, which marks her second missed cut in only three starts this season. Notably, the five-under cut was exceptionally low, matching a record for the LPGA Tour since 1980, a feat last observed at The Standard Portland Classic.
Meanwhile, Nelly Korda powered into the lead with an impressive second-round score of 65, placing her at 16-under par, two shots clear of Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim. Korda elaborated on the challenges posed by afternoon play, explaining that the greens become significantly bumpier and faster, demanding precise adjustments from players.
Additionally, sponsor’s invitee and rookie Asterisk Talley showcased a strong performance, successfully making the cut at ten-under par.
