He will move to Old Trafford under a five-year contract, which includes an option for an extra year.

In their official announcement on Sunday, the club stated: “Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”

Wolves, the selling club, also issued a statement confirming the transfer, noting: “Matheus Cunha has completed a permanent move to Manchester United for a club record fee following two-and-a-half years at Molineux… Everyone at Wolves would like to thank Matheus for his contributions in old gold and wish he and his family the best of luck for the future.”

The 26-year-old Cunha is reportedly very happy about the move to Old Trafford and eager to begin playing.

He was seen at the Lowry hotel in Manchester just hours before the transfer was officially revealed.

Cunha also announced the transfer himself on his social media, sharing Manchester United`s post on Instagram.

Last season, the Brazilian international was a key player for Wolves, contributing 17 goals and six assists in 36 matches.

Fifteen of his goals came in the Premier League. Meanwhile, United finished the season in a disappointing 15th position.

Manchester United is scheduled to pay Cunha`s release clause fee in three separate payments spread over the next two years.

The club had initially proposed annual payments stretching until 2029, but Wolves officials declined this offer.

His signing marks the first step in what is seen as a crucial transfer window for the Red Devils` manager, Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese manager is planning significant changes and an overhaul of the squad in the upcoming months.

Several players are expected to depart Old Trafford this summer. These sales are necessary to help address the financial gap resulting from the club`s failure to qualify for European competitions.

Among those potentially available for transfer are some prominent players, such as captain Bruno Fernandes and young talent Alejandro Garnacho.
