Manchester United Face Challenging Period, Says Pundit Jamie Redknapp

Former player and Sky Sports analyst Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United are in for a difficult 18-month period as the club attempts to transform its culture and playing squad.

Redknapp stated that new manager Ruben Amorim needs time to implement changes, but warned the Portuguese coach must be more tactically flexible. He praised Amorim’s willingness to make tough decisions regarding player personnel.

“Manchester United need to completely change their culture,” Redknapp said. “They must remove players who aren’t fully committed and stop panic-buying aging stars. It will be painful, but necessary for long-term success.”

The pundit endorsed United’s recent high-profile backroom appointments, including CEO Omar Berrada from Manchester City, as positive steps. However, he cautioned fans to be patient during what he sees as an inevitable transitional phase.

“United can’t keep making the same mistakes in the transfer market,” Redknapp added. “They need a clear plan and to stick with it, even if results suffer in the short-term. The current squad simply isn’t good enough.”

Amorim has struggled since taking charge in November, with United sitting 15th in the Premier League table. But Redknapp believes the club must resist knee-jerk reactions and give the manager time to implement his vision, provided he shows more tactical flexibility.

“Amorim needs to adapt his formation at times,” Redknapp said. “But I like his ruthlessness in dropping big names who aren’t performing. United require that kind of cultural shift to return to the top.”
