Manchester United Fans ‘Love Him Already’ After January Signing’s Bold Interview Before Arriving in Manchester

Manchester United fans are already smitten with new signing Diego Leon after his confident interview at the airport.

The 18-year-old left-back said an emotional farewell to friends and family in Paraguay before his six-thousand-mile flight to Manchester on Tuesday.

The Paraguayan teenager was Amorim`s first official signing in January.

Leon was actually Ruben Amorim`s initial signing in January, though the transfer couldn`t be finalized until the defender turned 18 in April.

He briefly visited Carrington earlier this year for his initial medical and his signing will be officially confirmed this week.

United is expected to pay Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno an initial fee of £3.2 million, which could potentially increase to £7 million with add-ons.

The Old Trafford faithful have quickly taken to Leon, who displayed maturity beyond his age in his recent interview.

Leon confidently declared he has no intention of being sent out on loan, a common path for young, unproven players at major clubs.

Speaking to a reporter at the airport before his flight, he said: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but that’s not my mindset.

“I’m going to impress in pre-season, and within one or two games, I’ll be playing with the team.

“The feeling is indescribable. You feel so many emotions. The truth is, I’m very happy, truly happy to be joining.

“I think it happened a bit quickly too, but you have to adapt fast once you’re there. I’m already a professional.

“I`ll have to adapt a bit to the climate, the language, and everything else. I have a lot of confidence in myself.

“I`m going to be at the top level with them. Now, my belief that I can succeed remains strong.”

Given the urgent need for a left-back in January, United also signed Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce, as Luke Shaw has been injured for over a year.

United fans have instantly appreciated Leon`s insightful words and seemingly mature approach.

Reacting to the interview, one fan commented on social media: “Love him already”.

Another added: “This is the mindset!!!!! Get him in that squad.”

A third commented: “That is what we want to hear 🥶.”

A fourth chimed in: “Love the confidence, Diego Leon sounds hungry and ready to prove himself. That mindset can take him far.”

One more wrote, “Got a good feeling about him!”

Leon held a farewell party with his loved ones over the weekend, and many posted `goodbye` pictures on Instagram.

The teenager has only one season of senior football experience, having made 33 appearances for Cerro Porteno last season.

The full-back is expected to be included in the club`s pre-season plans.
