Manchester United May Offload Casemiro in Surprise Transfer to Flamengo
Manchester United are reportedly considering loaning out midfielder Casemiro to Brazilian club Flamengo this month. The potential move is seen as risky by Flamengo due to Casemiro’s high wages and recent decline in form.
The 32-year-old Brazilian has fallen out of favor under new United manager Ruben Amorim, playing just 20 minutes in the last five matches. With a weekly salary of £375,000, Casemiro is one of the highest-paid players at the club.
United were eager to offload Casemiro before the European transfer window closed last week. However, the window remains open in some countries, including Brazil. Reports from Casemiro’s home country suggest Flamengo are close to completing a loan deal for the midfielder.
Casemiro, who began his career at Sao Paulo, would likely welcome the chance to return to Brazil. Flamengo are reportedly willing to cover part of his substantial wages, though they acknowledge the financial risk involved given Casemiro’s age and recent performances.
Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola stated: “I can confirm Flamengo have looked into Casemiro’s situation recently. Manchester United agreed to a loan and to subsidize part of his salary. However, Flamengo realizes this would still be a very high-risk move financially, even with United covering most of the wages.”
The potential departure of Casemiro follows loan moves for other United players like Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia during the January transfer window. If completed, the deal would allow Casemiro to revitalize his career in Brazil while giving United some financial relief from his large contract.
