Manchester United Not Favored to Win FA Cup Despite Top Team Exits
Despite advancing to the fifth round of the FA Cup and several top Premier League clubs being eliminated, Manchester United are still not considered favorites to win the tournament.
United began their cup defense with a penalty shootout victory over Arsenal last month. They followed that up with a controversial 2-1 win against Leicester City to book their place in the fifth round.
The Red Devils’ chances appeared to improve further when Premier League leaders Liverpool suffered a shock defeat to Championship side Plymouth Argyle. However, bookmakers still do not view United as the top contenders.
Struggling Premier League champions Manchester City are currently favored to win the FA Cup. Newcastle United are given the second-best odds, ahead of an inconsistent Manchester United side. High-flying Aston Villa round out the top four favorites.
League Two outfit Doncaster Rovers are unsurprisingly considered the biggest longshots to lift the trophy. Their odds could shorten if they manage to upset Crystal Palace in their fourth round match.
The fifth round draw will take place before Doncaster’s home clash with Palace. Despite being underdogs, Doncaster manager Grant McCann insists his team will stick to their aggressive style rather than sitting back against Premier League opposition.
“We’ve earned this opportunity to test ourselves against a very good Premier League side,” McCann said. “We want to put on a good performance for the fans and show what we’re capable of.”
