Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu Pulled at Halftime After Playing Out of Position in FA Cup Debut

Manchester United fans were surprised to see new signing Patrick Dorgu make his debut as a right wing-back in their FA Cup match against Leicester City. The 20-year-old Danish defender, who was brought in as a long-term solution for United’s left-back position, struggled in the unfamiliar role and was substituted at halftime.

Dorgu’s unexpected deployment on the right side left many viewers bewildered. One fan commented “What is going on?” while another said “Dorgu doesn’t seem suited for this position.” United went into the break trailing 1-0.

Manager Ruben Amorim had seen enough and replaced Dorgu with Alejandro Garnacho for the second half. The substitution proved effective, as Garnacho helped spark a comeback for United, who went on to win 2-1.

Former United captain Roy Keane questioned if it was “unfair” to play Dorgu out of position in his debut. However, some observers felt Dorgu looked more comfortable as the half progressed.

The young defender’s debut came just a day after his former club Lecce claimed United had given them an ultimatum over his transfer. Dorgu’s surprise start and early substitution will likely fuel further debate about United’s transfer strategy and tactics under new manager Amorim.
