Marcus Rashford Nearing Loan Move to Aston Villa from Manchester United
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford appears to be on the brink of completing a loan move to Aston Villa for the remainder of the season, according to reports.
The 27-year-old England international has fallen out of favor under new manager Ruben Amorim and has not featured for United since December 12. Multiple sources indicate a deal is close to being finalized that would see Rashford join Villa on a temporary basis.
It’s reported that Villa will cover the majority of Rashford’s substantial £325,000 weekly wages at United. The deal is said to include an option for Villa to make the move permanent in the future.
Aston Villa were able to make this move after selling striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for £64 million. The influx of funds allowed them to take on Rashford’s high salary.
Rashford is keen to revitalize his career after struggling in recent seasons under both Erik ten Hag and now Amorim at United. The opportunity to potentially play Champions League football again with high-flying Villa is thought to be appealing to the forward.
The relationship between Rashford and Amorim reportedly soured after an incident where the manager was informed Rashford had been out late before a match. Their rapport has not improved since, with Amorim publicly criticizing Rashford’s commitment level.
If the loan deal is completed as expected, it would mark the end of Rashford’s time at United for now after coming through the club’s academy. He’ll be hoping a change of scenery at Villa can help him recapture his best form.
