Martinez Injured as Manchester United Fall to Crystal Palace

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez was stretchered off in tears after sustaining what appeared to be a severe knee injury during his team’s 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The match was paused for several minutes as medical staff attended to Martinez on the pitch. The Argentine center-back seemed to twist his knee awkwardly while challenging for the ball with Palace winger Ismaila Sarr in the 83rd minute.

This latest setback comes after Martinez missed much of last season with a foot injury. He had only recently returned to the lineup after another knee issue in January.

Crystal Palace capitalized on United’s disarray, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring twice in the second half to secure the away victory. His first goal came from a rebound after Maxence Lacroix’s header hit the crossbar.

The loss marks United’s 7th home defeat of the Premier League campaign. Despite a bright start to each half, the home side faded as the match progressed.

Manager Ruben Amorim faces mounting pressure, having already labeled this United squad as the worst in the club’s history. The team now sits in 8th place, 11 points off the top four.

United will anxiously await further assessment of Martinez’s injury in the coming days. The defender’s absence would be a major blow as the Red Devils enter a crucial stretch of fixtures.
