Mathys Tel Commits Long-Term Future to Tottenham with Six-Year Deal
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that new loan signing Mathys Tel has agreed to a six-year contract with the club and will remain in North London beyond his initial temporary spell from Bayern Munich.
The 19-year-old French striker joined Spurs on deadline day on a loan deal with a £45 million option to buy. Despite reports in Germany suggesting Tel could still opt against a permanent move in the summer, Postecoglou was adamant about the player’s long-term commitment to Tottenham.
“He will be a Tottenham player,” Postecoglou stated firmly. “I believe he’ll demonstrate to everyone over the next six months why he’ll be a Tottenham player. I didn’t bring him here just for a short-term loan.”
Tel has received clearance to make his Spurs debut in their upcoming match against Liverpool. The young forward initially turned down a £50 million permanent transfer to Tottenham, but had a change of heart after extensive discussions with Postecoglou.
The Spurs manager revealed he had a lengthy phone conversation with Tel about football matters, which helped convince the player to make the move. “I sensed early on that we had a connection and he was hearing what he wanted to hear,” Postecoglou explained.
Despite interest from other top Premier League clubs, Tel ultimately chose Tottenham. Postecoglou views the signing as a major coup for Spurs, praising Tel’s physical attributes and goalscoring ability.
“He’s very exciting,” the manager enthused. “He has enormous self-belief and confidence in his abilities. Physically, he’s already at a level where he can handle the challenges of the Premier League.”
With Tel now committed long-term and cleared to play, Tottenham fans will be eager to see their new striker in action as the club aims to climb up the Premier League table in the coming months.
