Media Reports on Chun-Li Casting in New Street Fighter Adaptation

According to recent media reports citing insider sources, actress Callina Liang (known for roles in “How to Have Sex” and “Presence”) has been cast in the role of Chun-Li in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular fighting game franchise, Street Fighter. As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding this casting.

The new Street Fighter film project was initially announced in 2023, with production handled by Legendary Pictures and Capcom. Official details concerning the full cast and the film`s plot remain under wraps. The movie was originally scheduled for a Spring 2026 release, but its debut has since been postponed to an indefinite date.

The project has also seen changes in its directorial team. Initially, the acclaimed directing duo Michael and Danny Philippou, known for “Talk to Me,” were set to helm the film. However, they reportedly left the project in June 2024 due to scheduling conflicts, opting to prioritize their work on the A24 film “Bring Her Back.” In February 2025, Kitao Sakurai, recognized for his work on “Twisted Metal” and “The Eric Andre Show,” took over the director`s chair.
