Netflix to Adapt Adult Superhero Detective Comic Powers into Animated Series

Netflix is developing an animated series based on the acclaimed adult superhero detective comic, Powers, created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. This project comes in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics, the current publisher of the series.

Sources indicate that Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue from Dark Horse Entertainment will serve as executive producers for the Powers animated series. Creators Bendis and Oeming are actively involved, with Bendis writing the pilot episode and Oeming contributing to the visual development. At present, no director, cast members, or release date have been announced.

Powers blends the superhero and detective genres, following two homicide detectives who investigate crimes involving individuals with extraordinary abilities. The comic book series debuted in the early 2000s and has previously been adapted into a live-action show for the PlayStation Network.

Given the recent success and popularity of adult animated superhero series like Invincible and The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated format appears particularly well-suited for Powers. There’s a clear market demand for such mature storytelling in animation.
