Newcastle Rejects Late Trippier Transfer Bid from Galatasaray
Newcastle United turned down a last-minute transfer offer for defender Kieran Trippier from Turkish club Galatasaray just hours before the Turkish transfer window closed on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old full-back has been the subject of transfer speculation for months, following a challenging season both on and off the pitch. Previously, Bayern Munich and several Saudi Arabian clubs had expressed interest in the player.
Galatasaray’s bid of £2.5 million for the former England international was deemed insufficient by Newcastle. Despite recent player sales, Newcastle management, particularly manager Eddie Howe, was determined to retain Trippier’s services.
Sources indicate that Galatasaray was prepared to offer Trippier a generous three-year contract to entice him abroad. However, Newcastle rejected the late bid, aligning with Howe’s wishes to keep the experienced defender.
Although Trippier has often been second choice to Tino Livramento this season, he delivered a standout performance in last week’s victory over Arsenal. Following that match, Howe publicly expressed his commitment to keeping Trippier at the club.
Trippier, whose contract is reportedly set to expire this summer, will now focus on helping Newcastle in their pursuit of Champions League qualification and potentially ending the club’s 70-year trophy drought in the upcoming Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool.
