Oliver Glasner Delays New Crystal Palace Contract Amid Transfer Market Concerns

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is reportedly holding off on signing a new contract with the club. His decision is based on seeing how committed the board is to supporting him significantly in the upcoming transfer windows.

The Austrian coach has achieved notable success since arriving in south London, surpassing expectations and notably leading the team to what is described as their first major trophy win.

Despite being linked with potential moves elsewhere following his triumphant campaign, he recently confirmed his intention to remain at the club for the upcoming season.

However, with just over a year remaining on his current agreement, Glasner is in no hurry to commit to a longer term. According to sources speaking to SunSport, he is seeking clear guarantees that summer transfer targets will be secured well in advance of the season starting, before advancing contract discussions.

A source within the club shared: “He has a year left on his deal and is just waiting to see how this summer goes before signing a new one. He was very critical of last summer, so the responsibility is on Parish to complete deals in time for pre-season.”

“Waiting until the last couple of days to bring in four players wasn’t ideal.”

Last season, Eddie Nketiah, Maxence Lacroix, Matt Turner, and Trevoh Chalobah were all signed on the final day of the transfer window.

Glasner previously commented on this situation in a press conference, stating: “It’s not a public discussion – I’ve already mentioned it several times. We could have done better in the transfer window. With four signings on deadline day, it’s not how you wish a transfer window would work.”

The Eagles are keen to build momentum from their strong conclusion to the recent season. SunSport previously reported that Glasner was open to sanctioning the sales of certain players to finance a significant squad rebuild.

Eberechi Eze is understood to be a target for Tottenham, while Marc Guehi is attracting interest from Newcastle.

SunSport sources indicate that Glasner desires substantial reinforcements, particularly strengthening the midfield and attacking options, to help Crystal Palace climb higher in the league table and compete effectively in the Europa League, following their major cup success.

Talks between Glasner and the board are ongoing, but currently, the primary focus is on the activity in the transfer market before any new contract is signed.
