People Can Fly, the studio known for the Gears of War series and the shooter Bulletstorm, was reportedly working on a sequel to their cooperative action RPG, Outriders. This project, code-named Project Gemini, was initially claimed by TheThumbWars and later confirmed by Insider Gaming, who added that the game was at the motion capture stage earlier this year.
Although the specific reasons for the cancellation haven`t been officially disclosed, information from multiple sources suggests that the project encountered difficulties primarily related to funding and ineffective communication with its publisher at the time, Square Enix. Project Gemini was one of two projects canceled by the studio in June, a decision that subsequently led to layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees.
Despite the reported cancellation of Outriders 2, People Can Fly remains actively involved in several other development initiatives. The studio is currently contributing to the development of Gears of War: E-Day in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, and is also developing Project Echo with Krafton and Project Delta with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
