The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has successfully concluded its inaugural event in Pretoria, South Africa, held at the SunBet Arena. The highly anticipated night of mixed martial arts action delivered numerous compelling performances.
In the main event of the PFL Africa bantamweight division, South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele faced Italy’s Michele Clemente. The fight was a closely contested battle, with both fighters exchanging significant strikes and elbows. Despite Clemente’s persistent pressure, Ndebele landed effective counter-attacks throughout the bout. Ultimately, Ndebele secured a unanimous decision victory, impressing the local crowd.
The heavyweight division witnessed a dramatic encounter between Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane and South Africa’s Justin Clarke. Kane initially gained an advantage with a powerful combination that visibly affected Clarke. However, the South African fighter rallied, landing a decisive counter right hand that knocked Kane out and secured him a first-round TKO victory.
Nigeria’s David Samuel made a strong start in the welterweight tournament by submitting Abdelrahman Mohammad in the first round. After multiple knockdowns with his boxing, Samuel transitioned to a dominant ground position and secured a rear-naked choke finish with minimal damage.
In another welterweight tournament bout, late replacement Rivaldo Pereira of Guinea-Bissau seized his opportunity, stopping Kunle Lawal in the first round. Pereira’s body shot proved effective, leading to a ground-and-pound finish with elbows to advance to the next stage. Samuel and Pereira are now slated to face each other in the semi-finals.
Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança also advanced in the welterweight tournament with a dominant performance against Emilios Dassi. After a quick takedown, Esperança unleashed a barrage of elbows and punches from top position, forcing a first-round stoppage.
In a different welterweight tournament bout, Yabna “The Panther” N’Tchala began aggressively against Peace Nguphane. However, Nguphane shifted the momentum with effective takedowns and strong top control. His ground-and-pound strategy earned him a unanimous decision win. Esperança and Nguphane are set to meet in the semi-finals.
An all-Nigerian catchweight bout saw Juliet Ukah emerge victorious over Jane Osigwe via split decision. Ukah controlled the pace of the fight with steady counter-striking, convincing two out of three judges.
