Pub’s Free Beer Offer Goes Awry as Nottingham Forest Nets 7 Goals
A Nottingham pub’s promotion offering a free pint for every Nottingham Forest goal resulted in an unexpected beer bonanza when the team defeated Brighton 7-0 over the weekend.
The Gedling Inn, a family-run establishment, launched the promotion to attract customers for the Premier League match. What was intended as a fun giveaway turned into a major event as Forest dominated the game.
Landlady Beccy Webster, who has managed the pub for six years, was taken aback by the goal tally. “I was upstairs when I heard cheers for the first goal, then quickly again for the second. By the time I came down, they’d scored a third – I realized we were in for quite a night,” she said.
The goals kept coming in the second half, with striker Chris Wood completing a hat-trick. Neco Williams and Jota Silva also found the net, bringing the final score to an impressive 7-0.
This meant patrons were able to claim a free pint roughly every 13 minutes throughout the match. In total, the pub gave away nearly 300 free beers.
Despite the unexpected cost, Webster remained positive about the promotion. “When the final whistle blew, I just thought ‘wow!’,” she said. “We never imagined they’d score seven goals. But it turned out to be a great day – customers were singing, people stayed for food, and many have been asking about future promotions. It’s wonderful to support the team and put our city on the map.”
The resounding victory keeps Nottingham Forest in contention for a Champions League spot, as they now sit six points above fifth-placed Newcastle. The team’s next fixture is an FA Cup match against Exeter, followed by a league game at home against Fulham.
