Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen has emerged as a surprising target for the Spanish giants. However, the young Dutch international would likely begin his time at the club on the bench.
The 22-year-old is seen by Real Madrid as a potential long-term successor to their current number one, Thibaut Courtois. This interest comes as Ukrainian keeper Andriy Lunin, 26, who has served as backup for five years, may be considering a departure.
Real Madrid is preparing to approach Verbruggen to gauge his interest in a move, offering him the prospect of eventually becoming the club`s first-choice goalkeeper.
Brighton is aware of Madrid`s interest and hopes for clarity on Verbruggen`s future during the summer transfer window. If he were to leave, the Seagulls would need to find a suitable replacement, having already monitored Liverpool`s Caoimhin Kelleher, 26, and Burnley`s James Trafford, 22.
Verbruggen has recently cemented his position as Brighton`s primary keeper after a competitive battle. He may, therefore, be hesitant to leave his current starting role for a backup position behind the experienced Courtois, 32.
Both the player and the clubs involved need to make decisions soon to allow for planning during the transfer period.

Real Madrid has also reportedly considered Arsenal`s Spanish goalkeeper David Raya, 29, for their long-term plans. However, securing a deal for Raya is considered potentially more challenging than signing Verbruggen.
