Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr Acquires Portuguese Club for £6.7 Million
Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr has spearheaded a £6.7 million acquisition of Portuguese second-tier club FC Alverca. The Brazilian forward led a group of investors from Spain and his home country in purchasing the club, which is currently second in Liga Portugal 2 and eyeing promotion to the top flight.
Alverca confirmed the sale of a majority stake by previous owner Ricardo Vicintin to the new investment group. Reports suggest Vinicius will control between 70-80% of the club’s shares. The deal was finalized just days before Real Madrid’s crucial Champions League match against Manchester City.
Located near Lisbon, Alverca has a history of playing in Portugal’s top division, having competed there for three seasons between 1998 and 2003. The club’s 7,705-capacity Complexo Desportivo stadium could potentially host top-flight matches next season if Alverca secure promotion.
This acquisition marks a significant step for Vinicius Jr off the pitch, as the 23-year-old looks to expand his business portfolio while still in the prime of his playing career. The move also demonstrates the growing trend of active footballers investing in lower-league clubs with ambitions of climbing the ranks.
As Vinicius prepares to face Manchester City in the Champions League, his new club will be hoping his success on the field can translate to prosperity for Alverca as they chase their dreams of joining Portugal’s elite.
