Ryan Giggs: Rashford Needs to Rediscover His Joy for Football

Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has expressed concern over Marcus Rashford’s current state of mind, saying the forward looks like he has “the weight of the world on his shoulders.” Giggs hopes Rashford can rediscover his love for football during his loan spell at Aston Villa.

Giggs, who was on United’s coaching staff when Rashford broke into the first team in 2016, recalled how the young striker initially played with freedom and enthusiasm. “Everyone will remember that smile and enjoyment when he first came through – but he doesn’t look like that now,” Giggs said.

The Welsh legend emphasized the importance of Rashford regaining his passion for the game. “He needs to play with that freedom and enjoyment that got him to where he is now,” Giggs stated. He added that Rashford appears unhappy and burdened, a stark contrast to the fearless teenager who burst onto the scene.

Giggs hopes the move to Aston Villa will help Rashford rediscover his form and confidence. “Hopefully, he will find where he was ten years ago and never forget that it is the best job in the world,” he said. “You should enjoy it because it will soon be over – you’ve got to try to enjoy every minute of it.”

The former United winger also discussed the challenges facing young players at Old Trafford today, noting the increased pressure and expectations compared to when he came through the ranks. Giggs praised emerging talents Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, saying they have provided “rare moments of light” for United in recent difficult seasons.
