Kim Hyung Tae, the director of Stellar Blade at Shift Up, recently acknowledged in an interview that the game`s narrative turned out to be weak. According to him, this area requires further development and will become a priority in the studio`s next project. Despite positive feedback regarding the action, visual style, and soundtrack, the story component raised the most questions among players.
Speaking with the Korean portal This Is Game, Kim Hyung Tae explained that while the combat system was completed early in development, significant resources were needed to focus on the narrative. The developer stated that cutscenes play a vital role in conveying the story, as it is challenging to communicate all narrative nuances through gameplay alone.
Initially, the team had planned to implement a deeper story with an expanded world and more developed characters. However, the high costs associated with producing cutscenes led to a reduction in the planned elements. As a result, much of the context was simplified for efficiency, and the main focus remained on the core storyline. Kim Hyung Tae noted that if a sequel were to be created, the studio would pay special attention to story development and strive to offer a more enriched narrative.
