Swansea City Fires Manager Luke Williams After Dismal Performance Streak
Swansea City has terminated the contract of manager Luke Williams following a disastrous run of seven consecutive losses. The club currently sits in 17th place in the Championship, just eight points above the relegation zone.
In an official statement, Swansea City announced: “We have made the difficult decision to part ways with head coach Luke Williams. Assistant head coach Ryan Harley and first-team analyst George Lawtey have also departed the club effective immediately.”
Williams’ tenure at Swansea ends after 13 months in charge. Club chairman Andy Coleman acknowledged Williams’ efforts during challenging times but stated that recent performances and results have fallen short of expectations at this level.
Alan Sheehan has been appointed as caretaker manager, with Martyn Margetson and Kris O’Leary joining his coaching staff. However, many fans have expressed their disapproval of Sheehan’s appointment, even on a temporary basis.
One supporter commented on social media: “I sincerely hope Sheehan is not being considered for the permanent position. He should only be in charge for a game or two at most.” Another fan added: “The correct decision was made, but please don’t keep Sheehan for more than a couple of matches.”
Sheehan previously served as caretaker manager for Swansea in December 2023 after Michael Duff’s dismissal, winning only three out of seven games before Williams was appointed.
The club has stated that the process to select a new head coach is already underway, with an announcement to be made in due course. Swansea’s next match is against Blackburn Rovers, who are also currently without a permanent manager.
