Riot Games has started testing a new feature for the in-game store in League of Legends – the ability to preview skins. The MOBA developers announced this in the patch notes for update 25.13.
LoL developers aim to give players the opportunity to evaluate the look of skins not only by their splash art but also directly by their in-game model. Some users may notice a new button in the store, clicking which launches a video review from YouTube showcasing how the skin behaves in a match. This feature is currently in the testing phase and is not yet available to all players. Riot Games plans to periodically enable and disable this function, adjusting its format based on feedback received. The timeline for the permanent launch of skin previews has not yet been announced.
Until now, in League of Legends, players could only preview the standard champion model when viewing their abilities. To see how a skin looks in an actual match, users had to search for videos from independent content creators on YouTube or other social networks.
Patch 25.13 for League of Legends was released on June 24th. In addition to introducing a new battle pass, the update revised the system for gaining experience from missions and champion mastery, introduced a new variation of the ARAM map, brought back the popular Arena mode, and included many other changes.
