Tomb Raider TV Series Reportedly Canceled by Amazon After $100M+ Spent

Amazon has reportedly halted production on the Tomb Raider series. Sources indicate that the show`s cancellation comes after several years of development without a finalized script.

Despite Amazon signing Phoebe Waller-Bridge in 2019 for a reported $20 million per year to write the series, and considering Sophie Turner for the role of Lara Croft, the project faced significant hurdles. Turner`s commitments to other projects and the departure of Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, a key supporter of the show, further contributed to its demise. Insiders claim that over $100 million was invested in the series` development.

Initial reports of Amazon`s Tomb Raider series surfaced in January 2023, with an official announcement in 2024 followed by casting efforts. Filming was tentatively scheduled for 2025, but ultimately did not materialize.
